Isuzu Motors has finally launched its much awaited SUV ISUZU MU-X in India at a starting price of ₹ 23.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the 4x2 variant and ₹ 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the 4x4 variant. As you can see the ISUZU MU-X is a boxy design with horizontally-slatted two furnished grill with a large Isuzu badging which gives it bold and imposing look up front. MU-X comes with LED headlights and day time running headlamps, while the rear-end receives new tail-light graphics with LED indicators.
You also get 17-inch time n cut alloy wheels from Isuzu. You also get a step plate on the side, chrome door handles, silver roof rails, chrome finished ORVMs with turn indicator which is foldable and attractable as well. Overall looks are boxy and brawny. It does have a contemporary character. It does have ISUZU’s DNA and nature. The ISUZU MU-X comes with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The monster is powered by the 3.0L 4-cylinder, turbo charged diesel engine with common rail direct injection intercooler mill that produces 174bhp of power at 3600rpm and 380Nm of torque from 1800rpm. It gets independent double wishbone suspension in the front and a peta-link setup in the back with shock absorbers. Let’s find out little more about what’s on offer in inside.
New ISUZU MU-X Interior
Get into the high cabin and you’ll see the dashboard is quite similar to the V-Cross. Isuzu, however, has maintained its interior looks as fresh as the exterior. It has used piano black and beige theme with burl wood trim lifts the appeal of the cabin. But the interiors don’t look premium enough for an SUV that aims to woo Fortuner and Endeavour buyers. The buttons and knobs feel low rent and look out of place in a Rs- 25 lakh SUV.
However, there’s a huge space in offer which is quite good in MU-X.The front seats are large and supportive and you get a great comfort in off-road and on-road as well. Get into the rear bench you can see there is an ample legroom and headroom. The third row is tight on space and is best used by children for a short journey and because the second row doesn’t slide, it isn’t flexible. There is a fair amount engine noise creeping into the cabin, especially in the lower revs.
New ISUZU MU-X Off-road Capability
When you drive this bulky monster in off-road, it felt perfect and gives you a better handling capacity. ISUZU MU-X definitely has the adequate torque to get you out of the rugged conditions. Climbing on the rocks is not too much difficult when you are driving ISUZU MU-X.
The engine in the MU-X has been integrated with 5-speed automatic transmission and a manual transmission is also an option. There are 2 variants one is the two-wheel drive and another is four-wheel drive. It was impossible to rock the car out of the deep ruts in the muck. I couldn’t build up the revs and then dump the clutch in an attempt to jerk the car back and forth. The ISUZU MU-X effortlessly crawls over large boulders with the slightest throttle inputs even in 4-high, without having to worry about operating clutch.
