Volkswagen has launched the latest generation of the Passat in the country at a starting price tag of Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new 2017 Volkswagen Passat India launch took place at an official event in New Delhi today and the new sedan becomes Volkswagen India’s first sedan that based on the MQB platform. For the moment, the Passat will launch with a 2.0L Diesel engine but there’s no plug-in hybrid variant introduced yet. All Passat models are assembled in India. Only two variants are on offer. The Passat Comfortline has a starting price of Rs 29.99 lakh  (ex-showroom). The top variant (Highline) costs Rs 32.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Offer for customers who book in 2017.

2017 Volkswagen Passat Engine & Transmission

The new Volkswagen Passat launched with a Diesel engine in India. The sedan is powered by a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which will produce a maximum power of  177 PS along with a peak torque of 350 Nm. The car comes mated to a 6-speed dual –clutch automatic gearbox. A 1.4 litre TSI model expected to be launch as well,which will be introduced later.

2017 Volkswagen Passat Exterior

The new generation Volkswagen Passat based on the MQB platform. The car was built at Volkswagen’s Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. Compared to its predecessor, the proportions are better with a longer wheelbase and a lower body. The new Passat gets a sharper design bumpers, triple-slat grille, LED headlamps with signature DRLs and Dynamic Light Assist feature.

At the rear, the Passat gets smoother looks in term of design and clutter-free and sedan looks longer as well. The Passat receives a sculpted, doomed hood and a 79 mm longer wheelbase. The newly launched Passat is 12 mm wider and 14 mm lower compared to the previous model. The new 2017 Passat’s cabin is more spacious when compared to the previous model and the boot space has been increased from 26 litres to 586 litres(now). The new car sheds off 70 kg of weight compared to the outgoing model.

In terms of interior, the new Passat is a lovely looking thing which includes a new instrument panel and steering wheel. A superior quality of materials used in the interior with piano black accents and chrome trims which gives an appealing and premium look. A 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster makes it to the Passat, shared with the Audi TT and is also includes a touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console with USB and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink compatibility. In addition, the car comes with new Park Assist, Head-Up Display (HUD) unit.

New VW Passat will come in with most advanced safety features. There are some systems like driver assistance system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking system. Some other features like blind spot monitor, 360-degree view cameras, lane departure warning and rear traffic assist. Rear view cameras will be standard equipment on board all 2017 Volkswagen Passat variants.
